Back…

Hello friends…

If it feels like it’s been a while, well that’s because it has. Hard to believe I haven’t posted here since June 8th! The good news, for those who enjoy my occasional banter, is that i’m back, and feel like I have a few things to say. Not today, not right now, but in the days and weeks ahead, so stay tuned.

The funny thing is – it’s not like I haven’t been running much since I was last here. I’ve been running a lot.

For example, since my last post I have:

  • Run 54 times
  • Covered 411 miles
  • Set a new half marathon PR (1:43) at the Seattle Rock and Roll Half
  • Been part of a winning team team at the Ragnar Northwest Passage Relay
  • And had probably my worst run ever…

So, like I say, I’ve been busy.

Just so you know what I’m working towards right now, well it’s the Victoria full marathon on Oct 9th. I did this race last year, (read about it here) and am looking forward a) to having a crack at improving on my current PR of 3:54 and b) to afternoon tea at The Empress Hotel, a fair reward I think, for 26.2 miles.

Training is going OK – my form is generally good, although I’m still struggling to sustain a decent pace through the second half of my longer runs. Nevermind.

I have to say that today, on my longest planned run (22 miles) I really was as happy as a pig in shit.  Seattle is doing it’s best to deliver us some kind of Indian Summer – the weather has been great these past few days, and as I left the house early this morning, the sky was already a clear blue, the temperature was perfect for running, and the city just looked at it’s very best. Although the distance I had to cover was a little daunting, the weather and scenary were perfect, and there was just me, some top tunes and an open road ahead of me. Time to think about everything, time to think about nothing…a perfect day.

And on that note – a fine blast from the past to make your day go a little better:
